I heard Blake read from Spellwright at a SFinSF (Science Fiction in San Francisco) event, and laughed out loud. I also read his short story, Endosymbiont, and taught it in my Science Fiction and Philosophy course at the University of San Francisco. Blake came to class on my subsequent invitation, and was again terribly engaging and personable - my stuents loved him!
Spellwright was a terrific read. Not only is it funny, it is very well plotted, a real page-turner. The guiding conceptual idea - spellcasters with dyslexia - is actually quite riveting and gives Blake the opportunity to play with language at a level I can't remember done so well since my adolescent love affair with Piers Anthony!
